Don't miss out on YOUR Medicare benefits

Medicare Advantage plans offer several benefits that can help improve your overall heath and lighten your wallet

As a certified licensed agent for Medicare products, I've noticed a trend during open enrollment this year: seniors are not using their supplemental benefits!! This is unfortunate, because supplemental benefits can be a valuable way to save money on healthcare costs and improve your overall health and well-being.

Supplemental benefits are additional benefits that are offered by Medicare Advantage plans. These benefits can include things like dental, vision, hearing, and fitness memberships. Some plans even offer transportation benefits and meal delivery services.

Supplemental benefits can be a great way to save money on healthcare costs. For example, if you have a Medicare Advantage plan that covers dental care, you could save hundreds of dollars each year on dental visits and procedures. And if you have a plan that covers vision care, you could save money on glasses, contact lenses, and eye exams.

Supplemental benefits can also help you get access to care that is not covered by Medicare. For example, some plans offer routine chiropractic care and acupuncture. These services can help you stay healthy and active, and prevent more serious health problems down the road. If you are a senior with a Medicare Advantage plan, be sure to review your benefits during open enrollment and make sure you are taking advantage of all that your plan has to offer. Here's how to find your supplemental benefits:

  1. Access your online account. Most Medicare Advantage plans allow you to view your benefits online. Simply log in to your account and click on the "Benefits" tab.

  2. Use the plan's app. Many Medicare Advantage plans also have apps that you can download to your smartphone or tablet. You can use the app to view your benefits, find providers, and schedule appointments.

  3. Call the plan's customer service number. If you can't access your online account or the app, you can always call the plan's customer service number for assistance.

Open enrollment ends on December 7, so be sure to review your Medicare Advantage plan and make any necessary changes before then.

Tips for Using Your Supplemental Benefits Here are a few tips for using your supplemental benefits:

  • Read your plan's summary of benefits and coverage (SBC). This document will tell you exactly what benefits are covered by your plan and how much you will pay for them.

  • Talk to your doctor. Your doctor can help you understand your healthcare needs and recommend supplemental benefits that are right for you.

  • Make sure you are using the benefits that are covered by your plan. Some seniors forget that their plan covers certain benefits, so they end up paying out-of-pocket for those services.

  • Shop around for providers. Some providers may charge more than others for the same services. Be sure to compare prices before you schedule an appointment.

  • Take advantage of preventive care. Many supplemental benefits cover preventive care services, such as annual physicals and cancer screenings. These services can help you stay healthy and prevent more serious health problems down the road.

I encourage all seniors to take advantage of their supplemental benefits. Supplemental benefits can help you save money on healthcare costs, get access to the care you need, and improve your overall health and well-being.
