How to pick the correct network from the online provider directory
It's tricky! Here's a how-to guide.
Search for your doctor at: https://findaprovider.healthnetcalifornia.com/location but as a guest, you have to select the correct network from the dropdown.
There are 2 networks available in the state of California for Individual & Family Plans ("IFP") sold either directly by Health Net (ie "off-exchange") or through the Covered California marketplace (ie "on-exchange").
Those 2 different networks are
the HMO Network - Ambetter HMO IFP
the PPO Network - Ambetter PPO IFP
HealthNet Ambetter HMO
Also known as the "CommunityCare HMO" network, the Health Net Ambetter HMO may contain access (as of 2026... this is subject to change) to Regal or Lakeside Medical Group, which is a medical group not available in most of the other HMO plans available on Covered California. Compared to the other IFP plans available through Covered California, the Health Net Ambetter HMO is a fairly broad network for an HMO, but of course it contains many fewer doctors compared to Blue Shield’s PPO network and to networks that are available through employer-sponsored group plans.
To search Health Net's online provider directory for doctors in the Ambetter HMO network, you must select "HMO - Ambetter HMO IFP (PLT, GLD, SVR, BRZ, Min Cov)" from the dropdown:
HealthNet Ambetter PPO
Formerly known as the "Health Net EnhancedCare PPO”, this Health Net Ambetter PPO is a very small/narrow PPO network, with many fewer doctors compared to Blue Shield’s PPO network, (and even smaller/narrower than a lot of HMO plans).
To search Health Net's online provider directory for doctors in the Ambetter PPO network, you must select "PPO - Ambetter HMO IFP (PLT, GLD, SVR, BRZ, Min Cov, HDHP)" from the dropdown:
